The funeral program is probably the only keepsake that many attendees from the service keep for years. It highlights the service order and may have text to pay contribute to the deceased. That’s the reason it is such a special keepsake. A funeral program template should be created keeping that in mind.
Usually you can order a funeral program template that contains the following contents.
- Service information
- Background image and a cover photo of the deceased
- Outline of funeral service
- A written obituary and names of surviving members of the family
- Funeral poems
- Funeral related scripture
- Funeral related prayers
- Notes and memos
No matter how you create a funeral program template, you will be adding majority of these sections to the template. Some people may also add a photo collage or clipart to convey their emotions and feelings for the loved one.
Creating the Basic Template
Once you know what contents you want to add to a funeral program template, you should start by creating a basic template. You can create a basic template for funeral service in Microsoft Word or a similar program. You will need to create tables and add text to it. Any software program that can do that will let you create a template.
You will need to create a two-page layout for funeral program template. However, this is not a limitation as you can create as many pages as many you want. Two-page template is a standard template and that’s what most people expect to receive. One page is going to be the front cover while another page will be used as a back cover. You can add contents to both pages.
Add two tables to the front page and hide borders. This should be easy in Word or another similar program. Look for table tool and its options. Once you have hidden the rows, add contents according to a design scheme. It should be easy to set contents in different parts of the page by moving them from one table row/column to another. Once done with arrangement, format and stylize the content.
When it comes to adding content, make sure that you don’t add any lengthy poems on the front page. If you have to add poems in the template, add them to the back cover. However, you can add a verse or two on the front page if it goes well with the overall design of the template.
Using a Free Template
Instead of creating a template from scratch, you can simply use a pre-set template and add contents to it. This should be fairly easy as you don’t have to do much except adding contents. However, if you want to customize a pre-defined template and you don’t have much designing experience, it can be time consuming and sometimes difficult.
To find a free template, you can simply search on the internet or visit some funeral related forums. It should be easy to find a decent template but you may waste a lot of time if you are looking for something very specific.
